Robert Gwinn, son of James, acquired the following property:

  • 30 acres by survey on Matt's Branch in 1798
  • 323 acres from Baily Wood on Matt's Branch in 1804

He conveyed the land as follows:

  • 30 acres to Conrad Deboy in 1810
  • 48 acres to James, his son, in 1831
  • 275 acres to Sarah, his wife, with provision in his will for the land to go to James after Sarah's death
(There is a survey record in the Monroe County Courthouse showing that James gave his son, Robert, 140 acres from this survey. But this land does not show in the tally of James's or Robert's land and it appears it was not actually conveyed.)

Deed descriptions make it clear the land Robert acquired from Baily Wood and conveyed to his son, James, was the Riverview Farm land.

About a quarter of a mile north of the existing Riverview Farm house there is the remains of two log structures and two stone chimneys. A telephone interview with a lady who lived in the house as a child revealed that one structure was the dwelling house and the other the kitchen. She did not know who lived in the house before her parents. Robert may have lived there before building the log portion of the Riverview Farm house, but there is no evidence to support that supposition.

There is a handed-down story that the log portion of the Riverview Farm dwelling was under construction in 1812. The storyteller remembered the date because the craftsmen working on the building picked up their tools and left the job to join the army when they heard that America was at war with England, again.

There is a picture of two chimneys and the remains of two log houses that may have been Robert and Sarah's first home. If so, it soon became inadequate and Robert built the log portion of the clapboard-sided structure that current (as of 2004) stands as the forgotten home of four generations of Gwinns. Robert may have also built the frame addition to the log structure and added the clapboard siding.
